GoodVendor is built on public records and open data. This page says where each kind of fact comes from, so that anything you read on a listing can be traced to its source.

1. Licence and business records

Business names, licence numbers, licence classes, licence standing and the addresses shown on unclaimed listings come from public records published by state licensing authorities. In Florida that is the Department of Business and Professional Regulation's construction licensee file. Each listing says on its own page that it was built from public records, and states the licence standing exactly as the state publishes it. A business may have its listing removed, free of charge, on request.

2. Places and map data

City, county and state names, and the points used to rank results by distance, are derived from the United States Census Bureau's TIGER and Gazetteer files, which are in the public domain.

Some street addresses and building names are placed using the Census Bureau geocoder. Where the Census cannot place an address, GoodVendor uses OpenStreetMap. That data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL), at openstreetmap.org/copyright.

3. What a vendor says about itself

Once a business has claimed its listing, the phone number, website, email, description, services and service area on the listing are supplied by the business and are its own statements, not ours. "Owner confirmed" means the person holding the account proved they are the business. "Verified" means GoodVendor reviewed the licence and insurance itself. The two are different, and the listing says which applies.
